In Japan, individual foods are traditionally served in separate bowls or partitioned to keep them from touching. Adding a few tasty side dishes to complement rice and main meals is a classic feature of Japanese dining.
So, if you want a more authentic experience, why not try our most popular side dishes, like Gyoza, Takoyaki and Edamame?

What could be more Japanese than Rice? At Tenkaichi Cardiff, we prepare more than 60kg of rice every week which we use in a variety of menu favourites. Japanese rice is deliciously sticky and rich – which makes it much easier to eat with chopsticks!

Is there anything more comforting than a warming bowl of noodles? Shoyu/Miso based noodle soups might have originated in China but have become a staple of Japanese cuisine. Just visit Japan and you’ll find yourself surrounded by Ramen shops, with around 5,000 in Tokyo alone.
Cha Siew and Spicy Ramen are our biggest sellers. We highly recommend the Cha Siew Ramen – our secret authentic Chinese cooking technique puts it in a league of its own.
A firm favourite in Japan
Stir fried noodle dishes are a firm favourite in Japan. At Tenkaichi you can chose from Yaki Soba or Yaki Udon both wheat noodles imported from Japan due to the superior qualities of Japanese wheat for making these noodles. We also serve Yaki Vermicelli (rice noodles) for those preferring a gluten free option.
Either Yaki Soba or Spicy Yaki Soba would be our recommendation here.
Expertly selected
Expertly selected and precision cut with the highest quality Japanese steel, Sashimi preparation is an art, that’s why our specialist Sashimi chefs are selected from amongst the best in the business.
We recommend our Salmon Sashimi, the choicest cuts of the freshest and best Atlantic Scottish Salmon, which is driven to our kitchen direct from old man Tenkaichi’s fishery contacts in the highlands, before most other Salmon has even got off the cargo plane! Fresher than on a fishmonger’s slab, we challenge you to find better anywhere, we even specify the year group to ensure consistent quality!
The stereotypical sushi
The stereotypical sushi, Nigiri is Japanese for squeeze or to grab, and is the movement a highly trained sushi chef makes to form Nigiri, a mix of Neta and Shari. Shari is the vinegared sushi rice traditional to Japan and Neta is the topping which can be vegetables, egg, fish or meat.
Our recommendation is to order either of our ‘nigiri platter’s’ dependant on your preferences.

Japanese Rice Wine or Sake enjoyed alongside or after food in Japan. Traditionally, Sake is served warm, however with modern brewing techniques, it’s now just as good served cold.
